Sustainable support for the community

Through a partnership with Community Trees, a sustainable farming collective in northern Malawi, we provide 48 families from eight villages with a regular wage, fuel for their homes, food for their families and an opportunity to make a living by selling surplus produce. More than 75,000 acacia trees have been planted in the region since 2007, and maize is sown in the fertile soil between the trees, providing an additional source of food and income. A nursery has also been established so that the villagers can cultivate seedlings for future planting and for sale to third parties. During 2009, the project was extended to provide a sustainable living for an additional 30 families.
